What is Thrush?
Thrush, scientifically known as candidiasis, is a common yeast infection caused by the Candida species of fungus. Candida naturally resides in the body, particularly in warm and moist regions such as the mouth and genitals. Normally, the immune system and beneficial bacteria keep candida in check. However, certain factors can lead to its overgrowth, resulting in infection.
Thrush infections often manifest in the mouth (oral thrush) or the genital area. While it is more prevalent among women due to the presence of candida in the vagina, men can also be affected. Men who haven’t been circumcised are more susceptible to thrush due to the conducive environment under the foreskin that promotes fungal growth.

- Balanitis: Inflammation of the penis
- Intense itching, redness, and soreness of the penis head
- Discomfort while urinating
- Difficulty retracting the foreskin
